Bashers rally for special kids on 22nd Birthday Bash THE COUNTDOWN IS ON for Barry Johnson from the Caloundra RSL and local Country Entertainer Graeme Jensen as they prepare to embark on an adventure of a lifetime which, it is hoped will raise $1.2 million dollars for sick, disabled and disadvantaged Queensland Children. Barry and Graeme have spent the last few months fundraising and preparing their [VEHICLE] for this year’s event which celebrates the 22nd Anniversary of the XXXX Gold Variety Bash. Traversing over 3,500 kms and travelling South from Hervey Bay to the Gympie Muster! This is Graeme’s 1st time on the bash, so he’s very excited about the journey ahead. Barry Johnson said: You can only imagine the fun and entertainment as they set off on a 3,500km journey to retrace the route of the very first Variety Queensland Bash in 1990. But this fun event also has a serious side. “It’s not only about having fun as the Bashers will also visit a number of schools on the way and experience firsthand how rewarding it can be to participate in a Variety event.” said Variety Motoring Events Director Mr Rob Goodwin. Drivers and crews are drawn from all walks of life, these enthusiasts come together on the Bash to drive along rough outback roads and bribe and cheat their way past the officials! Departing from the Hervey Bay RSL on Thursday 18th August, the Bash will travel South West to Land cruiser Mountain Park then down to Warwick, Goondiwindi, and Lightning Ridge before heading back to Queensland through Nindigully, Miles, Cracow, Kingaroy and the last two days at the Gympie Muster In 2010, Variety Queensland was able to have a positive affect on the lives of over 30,000 children in need. With the assistance of our generous supporters, we provided equipment and services with a value in excess of $2.4 million since 1990, the XXXX Gold Variety Bash has raised more than $14 million for children and children’s organisations across Queensland.
